The 2015 ElliptiGO Winter Classic

January 17 & 18, 2015

~ Phoenix, Arizona ~

ElliptiGO Winter Classic The ElliptiGO Winter Classic boasts one of the most enjoyable courses we've raced on not only because it’s cut off from traffic, but because the variation in terrain and lots of turns makes it fun to ride. Click here to see results and the details of last year's race weekend.

Saturday's Race

1:00 pm - Meet up with entire group at South Mountain
*Those renting bikes from ElliptiGO should plan to arrive 30 minutes early to get their bike set up.

South Mountain Park
10919 South Central Avenue
Phoenix, AZ 85042

Meeting point and bathrooms: http://goo.gl/maps/PkLSR

Directions: Drive south on Central Avenue from the I-10 freeway. Central Ave ends in South Mountain Park. It’s approximately 15 minutes from I-10 into the park. If parking at the meeting point fills up, there are other lots on Central Ave just before the meeting point on your way in where you can park and ride over to the meeting point.

To start, you’ll ride out 5 miles on San Juan Road at South Mountain, which is paved & closed to traffic. These rolling hills are your warm-up and then the timed 5-mile race is back up those same rolling hills back to the start. The entire route is a paved road and completely closed to vehicles. After the race, competitors who are feeling up to the challenge are invited to make the 4-mile, 1,000-foot climb up to the summit as a group. The average grade is 4-5% with some steeper sections near the top.

UPDATE 11/3/14: Saturday’s timed race is still planned for San Juan Road at South Mountain if the park & road re-open before our event (or before we send out the final details to the participants.) If the park remains closed due to storm damage, our back up location is Salt River Fields, where we'll complete 2 loops on the road surrounding the stadium for a total of 4.34 miles.

Regardless of the location, Saturday’s time trial will be professionally timed by CEP Timing and will include timing chips, start/finish line, short delay between riders, and announcing & official results at the conclusion of the time trial. The backup location at Salt River Fields will include a split time on the first loop.

Following Saturday's ride, we'll all meet up at a local favorite for amazing burgers and beers where we will have an area on their patio reserved:

Zinburger
Biltmore Fashion Square
2502 East Camelback Road
Phoenix, AZ 85016

Sunday Group Rides

10:00 am - Meet up at trailhead parking lot

10:30 am - 2:00 pm - Group rides and lunch

Apache Wash Trailhead at Dove Valley Road* (Map)
Phoenix, AZ 85085

The Apache Wash Trailhead provides a central meeting point for a variety of routes including a newer divided parkway with very defined bike lanes. A full loop on the parkway is approximately 18 miles & is a popular training route for many cyclists with excellent road quality. It's also fairly flat with some low, gradual inclines. There are also paved/concrete bike paths for those people who want a more casual ride without any concern about traffic. You can choose to do several different routes with different riders or take a break back at the trailhead whenever you want. We'll eventually all be back at the trailhead to eat lunch, have drinks, and swap stories before we all GO back to our real lives. *We're working on food options for afterwards.

*Dove Valley Road becomes Sonoran Desert Drive at the Trailhead. The trailhead entrance is on the north side of the street between North Valley Parkway & Cave Creek Road

There will also be swag bags for all registered Winter Classic participants!
