How did you first hear of ElliptiGO? I first heard about ElliptiGO way back in 2012. I lived in Boston at the time and decided to take a test ride when I was visiting New York on business. The test ride was in Central Park and I was immediately hooked on the ElliptiGO experience. I purchased one that day and added a second one a month or so later. The test ride experience was critical, because it convinced me that the ElliptiGO bike was not just a great fitness workout, but the best and arguably only good alternative to running. Equally important, riding an ElliptiGO bike is fun and a fitness activity that you can enjoy and stay committed to for the long run.
About Mike Ruffolo
An avid distance runner, Mike Ruffolo has been a committed ElliptiGO rider since 2012. He stopped running marathons after surgery on his right knee and has used the ElliptiGO to maintain his fitness and achieve the “runners high.” He rides the ElliptiGO daily and enjoys completing long distance routes including a 100 mile “century ride” in Naples.
In addition to being the ElliptiGO Ambassador for the Naples/Ft. Myers area, Mike is also an early strategic investor in the company and has served on the Board of Advisors since 2014.
Mike’s professional background is in the tech industry where he served as CEO of 3 different global software/internet companies. In addition to ElliptiGO, he is a competitive tennis player and also enjoys swimming and skiing.
Naples/Ft. Myers is “ElliptiGO Country” – a rapidly growing region where riders can enjoy the year-round beautiful climate and the flat terrain. Mike has built a very large and popular group riding club in Naples and hosts weekly group rides to various scenic areas.
“We are blown away by our growth and success in this region of Florida,” says ElliptiGO CEO Bryan Pate. “Thanks to Mike, we are exploding in terms of ElliptiGO ridership”
How Do You Use Your ElliptiGO For Fitness/Exercise? I love the ability to get a great aerobic/core fitness workout without putting any stress on my joints (knees, hips, lower back). I use it to warm-up and cross-train for my other sports, particularly tennis. It has become my go-to means of transportation and completely replaced my regular bicycle.
Why Did You Decide To Form an ElliptiGO Riding Club? I love to do group rides and was frustrated that there weren’t many ElliptiGO riders in the Naples/Ft. Myers/Marco Island area. We live in a warm climate with flat terrain and plenty of bike lanes. Many people here are into health and fitness and I was motivated to build a large community of ElliptiGO riders. We now have a large group of riders and continue to add new ElliptiGO riders each month!
What is your favorite ElliptiGO bike?
My favorite is the 11R because I like to ride fast and for long distances. The carbon fiber drive arms are super-comfortable and the extra gears make a real difference.
What is your favorite local ride?
We do a lot of group rides and my favorite is a 30 mile route that runs along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico. The ride is mostly on bike lanes and goes through beautiful neighborhoods with great views of the water.
What is your longest or most memorable ride?
For sure, my longest ride is a 100 mile charity ride I did in Naples. The margaritas at the end of the 100 miles made the effort worthwhile! My two most memorable rides were the climb up Palomar Mountain at the ElliptiGO World Championships and the Boston Marathon ride.
