Valerie Christoff

A seven time Ironman finisher and three time Boston Marathon runner, Valerie is plagued by knee issues. Unwilling to give up on racing, she uses an 11R to rehab and to replace some run training. This is her first year with an ElliptiGO and she is anxious to find out how this new training will translate into results on the race course!

Without a doubt, she is passionate about her hobbies. At the age of 30, she acquired her first bike. She later began the process of learning to swim and paddle. Somewhere in the middle, she started running. At age 40, she signed up and completed her first Ironman. Indeed, she is embracing the 11R with the same enthusiasm, and she is excited to share it with you!

Other accomplishments:

  • Multiple time Dirty Dozen rider (Pittsburgh, PA)
  • On the podium at the Savageman Triathlon multiple times
  • Ohio State Champion in my division for paddling in an Epic kayak for my Tres Rios team
  • Multiple time Megatransect finisher (Lock Haven, PA)

Valerie's Journey with ElliptiGO

Valerie Christoff

How did you first hear of ElliptiGO? I learned about ElliptiGO through online research. I wanted to test ride one about 8 years ago. There was no place to do so, so I lived without it. I wish I could turn back the clock and buy it then so that my knees would thank me now!

How Do You Use Your ElliptiGO For Fitness/Exercise? In full training mode, I run 4-5 times per week. My plan is to replace 2 runs each week with an ElliptiGO and still run 2 or 3 times. I imagine I will ride my 11R more than twice per week just because I love it. Currently I am riding almost every day, but I need to find time to swim, paddle, bike, and run, too. If all of my races could be on the ElliptiGO, it would simplify training!

What do you love most about riding an ElliptiGO? Riding the ElliptiGO is fun. Nothing hurts. My neck and shoulders are relaxed. My back is straight and not tight. My knees, ankles, and hips don’t hurt from the pounding of running. I don’t get any saddle sores. So, I love “running” on my ElliptiGO for hours and being able to jog up and down the stairs the next day. Amazing!

What is your favorite ElliptiGO bike?
Without a doubt, the 11R is my ride. The long stride is exactly what I was looking for to replace some running. It gets my heart rate up and I can climb just about anything. Love, love, love it!

What is your favorite local ride?
I love riding at Linn Run in the Laurel Highlands. The park is beautiful, the stream is lovely, and it is about 6.5-7 miles of climbing. Traffic is light and the air is clean.

What is your longest or most memorable ride?
I rode the Gap Trail into Point State Park in Pittsburgh with three friends. They were on their road and tri bikes. I showed up with my 11R and was able to stay with them for the full. They are such a supportive crew and made me feel like I was a rockstar on my long stride!

There are a couple of cycling groups around that I join. My go to group is Ligonier Valley Cycling Club on FB. They are a welcoming group. I am the lone ElliptiGO rider and want to get add ons. Tonight I am going to test out a group in Greensburg at the Flat Tire Bicycle Company.
