SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 31, 2017) – Tim Woodier, a British endurance athlete has become the first person to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest in one ride while riding an ElliptiGO elliptical bike. The feat, known as “Everesting,” required him to tally total elevation gain of 29,029 feet (8848 meters). The accomplishment has been verified by Hells500, which manages the Everesting Hall of Fame.
For Woodier, the massive climb was merely a waystation on the way to another goal. “I figured it would be good training for the Mille Pennines 1000km ride I am planning to ride later in the year which has many steep ascents,” he said.
Woodier’s ascent was actually a series of 59 one-mile-long repeats up a hill near his home that averaged 10% grade. “The first 400m was about 5%, then the rest was an average of 12% with two sections getting to about 18% at the steepest,” he explained. In total, Woodier covered 122 miles (197 km) and 30,873 feet (9410 meters) in 15:41:53.
This is Woodier’s second major conquest on an ElliptiGO bike. Last August, he completed a 6500-mile journey of the eastern United States and Canada that took him through 23 states and one Canadian province over 87 days.
“Tim’s accomplishments are amazing,” said Bryan Pate, ElliptiGO CEO. “Prior to his trip through the US last year, he had ridden very few miles on an ElliptiGO bike. With that trip and his Everesting, he has simultaneously demonstrated that ElliptiGO bikes are durable, and a person can complete audacious feats on one if they set their sights on it.”
