As an avid general fitness enthusiast, Jose has enjoyed cross-training with the ElliptiGO bikes since 2020. Prior to stand-up bike riding, Jose played soccer and coached his daughter’s soccer teams. After recovering from knee injuries, Jose maintained physical activity with HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), spinning, and CrossfitTM. Jose has used the ElliptiGO bikes to further advance his cross-training and fitness level. He rides the ElliptiGOs 4-5 times/week for an average of 45 miles/week. Jose’s professional background is as a research engineer for the energy industry.

Jose’s hometown of Brentwood is approximately 60 miles east of San Francisco. In this landscape, ElliptiGO riders can enjoy many flat and mild hills with an amenable outdoor climate for most of the year. Jose is looking forward to building a community of ElliptiGO riders in this area.

“What I enjoy the most about the ElliptiGO bikes is the flexibility that they afford as physical activity equipment. For example, I can plan a 60-minute workout routine or simply ride downtown for a one-of-a-kind leisure ride. Also, I’ve heard other riders call these bikes ‘smile-machines’ as this often happens when encountering hikers on the trails”

Jose's Journey with ElliptiGO

Jose (JC) Sanchez

How did you first hear of ElliptiGO? I first heard about ElliptiGO in 2012 while looking for alternative ways to train on various standup bikes. However, I did not procure a bike until 2020. An Achilles tendon injury in 2019 restricted my training intensity and I needed a form of low-impact cardio activity to get back on track. I obtained an Arc 8 model and became fascinated with the riding experience. Within a month’s time, I procured a Long-stride 8C and now I have just acquired the top-of-the-line 11R. The workout provides great cardio and fun at the same time. On rest days, one can ride an ElliptiGO to go to the store or to go grab a cup of coffee.

How Do You Use Your ElliptiGO For Fitness/Exercise? The low impact nature of the long-stride model is the most attractive feature to me. The stand-up bike design requires the use of different muscle groups than the long-stride. The ability to work out the core area without imposing stress on my joints (knees, hips, lower back) is a unique feature for these bikes. Some days, I use the bikes to warm-up for a cross-training session or do interval training whereas other days I may ride 10 to 15 miles for cardio.

What do you love most about riding an ElliptiGO? I have a great field of view when riding these bikes. Also, I’ve heard other GO riders call these bikes ‘smile-machines’ and for good reason as this most often happens when encountering pedestrians or hikers on the trails.

What is your favorite ElliptiGO bike?
My favorite is the 11R.

What is your favorite local ride?
I enjoy the Marsh Creek Trail which starts at the south end of Brentwood and connects with the Big Break Regional Trail which ends at the shoreline of the San Joaquin River.

What is your longest or most memorable ride?
My longest ride to date is 25 miles and includes both the Big Break and Marsh Creek Trails. Other trails worth noting are the El Dorado Trail near Placerville, and the Napa Trail. However, the most memorable rides are those that are more relaxed when my wife comes along on her “Ruby Red” 8C.

ElliptiGO bikes available to test ride:

Long-Stride Bikes: 8C, 11R

Stand up Bikes: MSUB

Fluid 365 Stationary Trainer: Yes

I am currently a member of the Global ElliptiGO Riders Club (GERC) and the San Francisco Bay Area EGO Riders Club. Since pandemic precautions have restricted group riding, I look forward to joining with others in the East Bay and nearby vicinities to do group rides as restrictions ease.  We live in a delightful climate for most of the year, a bit warm in the summer, with flat terrain and plenty of bike lanes and bike paths. Furthermore, the natural high of riding the bikes is something worth sharing with everyone. Yes, it is as fun as it looks!

Test rides are by appointment only on weekday evenings or on weekends.
