May 2014 Rider of the Month – Rosa (GOsa) “Kiki” Vazquez

Rosa VasquezKiki was named the May 2014 ElliptiGO Rider of the Month for riding an incredible 438 miles in one week to achieve her goal of being the number 1 rider in the Strava ElliptiGO Group for the week. She managed to achieve this goal during the month of May when more than 130 riders were riding their ElliptiGOs every single day as part of the “Every Day in May” challenge and she had some serious competition. Congratulations on achieving your goal, Kiki!

Quick Facts About Kiki

1. How long have you been riding your ElliptiGO and what model do you ride?
I have had my ElliptiGO for 8 months. At the beginning I used it very seldomly. It wasn’t until the Every Day In May Challenge that I started using it on a daily basis. Now I am addicted to it and I don’t want to stop! I own a beautiful orange 8C model that I call “My Lady.”

2. What inspired you to use an ElliptiGO?
My boyfriend and I did triathlon for a while. Almost three years ago he injured his back and required surgery twice. During his recovery he was only allowed to use an elliptical machine. He started recovering well but he was bored to death. After being used to riding, running, and swimming in the open he became confined to an indoor exercise machine. That’s when he discovered the ElliptiGO. He bought one and it changed his life. He fully recovered from his surgeries and I have to say that the ElliptiGO was, in fact, the most important physical therapy equipment for him. He was riding in the open again and was enjoying every minute of it. He wanted to ride 100 miles to become a member of the ElliptiGO Century Club, so I rode with him on a road bike the whole 100 miles. Then he qualified for the 2013 ElliptiGO World Championships, and again, I climbed Palomar Mountain with him on a road bike that day. That very day I fell in love with ElliptiGO. The ElliptiGO team, the crowd, the environment, the camaraderie, and the experience were all wonderful. We had a blast! All this inspired me me to use an ElliptiGO, too. On our way back home I told him I was going to buy myself one. And I did! What started as an unfortunate event turned into a blessing for both of us. Here we are, ElliptiGOing and enjoying every minute of it.

3. What are your favorite events you’ve done on the ElliptiGO?
The only official event I’ve done so far is the Every Day In May Challenge, and I loved it! Can’t wait for another challenge.

4. What’s your most memorable experience related to the ElliptiGO?
Finishing number one on the Strava ElliptiGO Club Leader Board the last week of May. I set this as a goal and I worked really hard to accomplish it. Fulfilling it was fascinating. Getting to know all the people I met during this challenge was also memorable. The support I received from everyone in the Club, my boyfriend and my GO-Sistas, was priceless.

5. What are your ElliptiGO-related goals for the next year?
Participating in the ElliptiGO World Championships and “La Vuelta A Puerto Rico”, a 375-mile ride around the Island of Puerto Rico in 3 days. I also want to see more ElliptiGOers in Puerto Rico to add members to our team, Island GOers.
