Dale Lister is settling into retirement, but his passion for movement hasn’t slowed down a bit. Find out how this marathoner is using ElliptiGO bikes as a cross-training, recovery, and rehab tool. Meet Dale Lister, our November 2025 Rider of the Month!
Dale grew up in Southern California’s sunny Orange County and settled in Palmdale, California, more than 40 years ago. He’s married with three kids and five grandchildren. Until his retirement earlier this year, Dale taught 8th Grade science.
Back in 1999, Dale started running. He focused on long-distance running, but the miles of pounding took their toll. “At one point, with a knee injury, I decided to get an ElliptiGO to do some cross-training,” he says. “I loved it from day one.”
After suffering a torn meniscus, riding his ElliptiGO bike helped Dale recover and return to running. He now owns two ElliptiGO bike models: an 11R and an MSUB that he equipped with the electric bike conversion kit.
Running remains his passion. Dale admits, “When my running is going well, the ElliptiGO can sometimes be forgotten.” However, he’s learned the hard way that recovery and variety need to be key components of his regimen. “Replacing some of my run training with ElliptiGO training keeps me from getting injured as much,” notes Dale.
Cross-Training That Works
“Just two years ago, at age 61, I was a nationally ranked marathon runner,” shares Dale. “Now I have runner’s knee — damage to the cartilage under my kneecap. Since the knee issue flared up, I am nowhere near the shape I was in. My back is also getting increasingly stiff and problematic.”
He’s found that less running and more ElliptiGO riding help both his knee and his back. Currently, Dale rides a couple of times a week. In addition, he is working with an online physical therapist on strength and mobility.
Community Connections
Beyond recovery and rehab rides, Dale enjoys riding just for fun, too. One of his favorite ElliptiGO memories comes from a bike trek in the Pacific Northwest. “A few years ago, I took my 11R and did the Bicycle Rides Northwest tour in the Olympic Peninsula area of Washington,” he recalls. “It was a seven-day ride in the most beautiful surroundings. Being on a GO was fun—it got me a lot of attention!”
Dale has connected with the ElliptiGO community by dabbling in the Global ElliptiGO Riders Club’s (GERC) annual GOGO (Get Out and GO) challenge and occasional journeys to San Diego to join group rides. Dale has also heard the call of the mountain and has participated in the ElliptiGO World Championship ride up Palomar Mountain. And he enjoys riding ElliptiGO bikes with his local buddy, Keith Lake. “He is a STRONG rider!” says Dale.
Keep Moving Forward
Dale’s goal for 2026 is to keep moving. His advice for anyone considering an ElliptiGO bike comes down to two words: “Do it!”
Riding ElliptiGO bikes has helped Dale stay active despite injuries and to enjoy the ride along the way. Thank you for sharing your story, Dale! Congratulations on being our November 2025 Rider of the Month!
