We’ve been keeping you up to date on Idai Makaya’s exciting plans to complete a 1700 mi (2700 km) journey across Great Britain. His Longest Ride Challenge inspired ElliptiGO riders all over the world, and we recently gave him a send-off penned by Global ElliptiGO Rider’s Club officers.
This past Thursday, Idai achieved his goal – successfully completing his ride from Land’s End to John o’ Groats and back to Land’s End (aka LeJogLe). His efforts have blown away our team at World HQ and the ElliptiGO community worldwide. We’re excited to name Idai the July 2018 Rider of the Month. We thank him for sharing the values of our brand and for using his ElliptiGO bike to promote positive change in his community.
With riding partner Alan by his side for the entire journey, Idai experienced so much along the way. Here’s a recap of some of the best moments, which he documented through his website and social media. Come along on the LeJogLe, the #RideForGarai, and see why this will go down in history as one of the most epic ElliptiGO rides ever.
Today I head to Land’s End where tomorrow I’ll commence my 1,700-mile (2,700km) Longest Ride Challenge in memory of my late brother, @garaimakaya. Riding with many of my closest cycling friends I’ll strive to cover 150-miles every day, for 11 consecutive days. You can track the journey live (see link in bio) and a short summary of why I’m doing this challenge can be viewed in yesterday’s BBC News Report (in the video). #rideforgarai #LEJOG #JOGLELEJOG #JOGLE #endurance #cycling

In John o’Groats! We’ve completed the 865-mile Northbound End to End ride across Britain, between Land’s End & John o’Groats, in 5 days & 14hrs. We’re now halfway through this epic journey in memory of my late brother, Garai Makaya. I scattered his ashes here, so that every time I see that iconic sign I’ll remember him. Day 8* We covered 150-miles yesterday & are aiming for the same again today. Alan & I have now ridden 1015-miles across the first 7 days. Please continue to share, track & support this journey on https://t.co/GrezxI8soU #rideforgarai pic.twitter.com/NrIu84phgP

Day 11 has been a tough day… We had to take a mid afternoon break for a triple espresso because we were falling asleep while riding – in the rain. We’ve now covered over 100-miles today, taking Alan and my total to 1,619-miles in total. You can track us live on www.idaimakaya.com (link in bio). #rideforgarai
50-miles away from Land’s End. Having two McDonald’s breakfast meals & two cappuccinos. You can track the end of our journey on https://t.co/GrezxI8soU #rideforgarai pic.twitter.com/l2A1ZRyWTY
